Caerleon Roman Fotress

Caerleon Roman Fortress also called – the ‘ fortress of the Legion.’ The fort is massive covering 50 acres and rectangular in shape.? It has an Amphitheater, as well as several fortification ditches and walls. In the forts heyday it was used by more than 7,000 soldiers.

It was first occupied in cAD75 by Sextus Julius Frontinus who built the fort under the instruction by Romain Emperor Vespasian.

From 12th to the 14th August 2011 there will be a family festival held near usk.This is  truly a family festival, rather than a folk festival,and it is one of the best a green festivals around. Winner of the Greener Festival Award, it includes lots of activities for kids, and could appeal to many folkies too. The organizers always champion renewable energy and sustainability and the festivals reflect their beliefs. There are a variety of genres of music to appeal to all tastes, including acoustic music. Plus crafts and workshops. The site is in a beautiful, but secret, location which will be revealed to you once you have purchased a ticket!  All the organisers can reveal prior to ticket purchase, is that the site is approximately 3 miles from Usk in Monmouthshire. It is 14 miles approx. from Abergavenny, 14 miles from Newport and approx. only 8 miles from Pontypool. All of the electricity on site is generated by solar panels and wind generators. Everything that possibly can be, is recycled. All the food and drink on site is organic, as local as possible and fairly traded where appropriate. There will also be experts on site giving talks and running displays on renewable energy and sustainability and the U.Ks largest supplier of solar panels will be on site. There are a limited number of camper van passes available at £35 for a live in vehicle up to 5m long and £45 for larger vehicles. Live in vehicles include: camper vans, caravans, trailer tents and motor homes. You do not have to pay for parking if you have a live in vehicle pass. Taking your Wales Campervan Hire is the best way of having luxury accommodation on site. Buy tickets from the Croissant Neuf Summer Party well in advance. Take watering cans to fill up your water tank in your Motorhome or Wales Campervan hire, as your vehicle may not be allowed to move once on site.

Parc Bryn Bach

This is the place to take the whole family if you are keen to cycle. It has a purpose built track which is the only National Standard BMX Circuit track in wales. It is not just for experienced riders, anyone can try it out in a safe and controlled environment. With over 400 metres of circuit to try out you can have a go at a range of range of different sized jumps and berms.  There is also a newly built pump track for the more experienced rider to progress. If you haven’t brought your own bikes with you, Parc Bryn Bach has a range of adult and children’s bikes available for hire from BMX and mountain bikes to tandems, trikes, child carriers and even wheelchair friendly bikes. Currently in 2011,bikes are available for hire Saturdays between 10am and 6pm and Sunday between 9:30am and 4:30pm. During the summer the hire facility will be available throughout the week . They also supply you with helmets. Take with you two separate forms of ID to presented when hiring equipment as proof of identification. Princess and Pirate Week 8th August 2011 to12th August 2011

For those of you on holiday in Monmouthshire in Wales during August, the Old Station at Tintern has on offer some fun activities for junior members of your family. Young Princesses and Pirates can join the staff at The Old Station for Princess and Pirate week. You are encouraged to dress up, so pack those costumes! There is a great deal here for adults too.The site features a riverside walk and meadows, children’s play area, picnic site with barbeques, tearoom, souvenir shop, tourist information. The signal box houses changing exhibitions from local artists and crafts people. You can also have a meal here as the Carriages tea room at the Old Station is open for breakfast, light lunches, home baked cakes and afternoon teas. It is also featured in the AA Afternoon Tea Guide. At the themed week you are likely to find 15 to 20 treasure trails. Children can be involved in making treasure maps and hunting for gold nuggets! Princesses may get the opportunity to make a hat or headdress or follow the flower trail. Pack those costumes for the children and make this a highlight of your holiday Motorhome hire. Activities start from 10.30am to 17.00am and costs for activities are in the region of £1.70 to £2.00. The site is owned and maintained by Monmouthshire Council.
