Skye Camping and Caravanning Club Site

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Scotland

Touring in Skye is best done in a Motorhome as the weather in Scotland is always unpredictable and camping in a tent is a risk. Even if it rains Skye is a wonderful and dramatic place to be and there are many opportunities for walkers, including hikes in the Black and Red Cullin mountain ranges. Take the right equipment with you for any weather conditions and you wont go wrong! This is a fairly new Club Site on the Isle of Skye is right on the shore of Loch Greshornish. Its situated on a working croft, and the Site shares Skye’s stunning scenery and dramatic history with the area’s famous Highland cattle. You may even spot an otter during a loch-side walk. The site has won an AA 4 Pennant, Visit Scotland 4 stars,Scotland category award. Is also won a Loo of the year award in 2011! There is a well stocked shop on Site selling most everyday items including fresh milk, along with duck and chicken eggs (laid on the croft). You can also buy souvenirs and some camping equipment here. Skye is essentially a peaceful rural place and you can expect it to be a quiet and restful stay here. In the evenings the local pubs fill with members of the local community who come together to enjoy a pint. We found the people of Skye very friendly and helpful. Ushenish Light House

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Scotland

This is certainly one of the remotest lighthouses on land in the British Isles and cannot be reached by road. The lighthouse is situated on the Western Isle of South Uist and can only be found by the fittest of walkers! You cannot drive there but it can be reached by footpath on a four hour walk from Loch Skipport. Bear in mind it’s a four mile walk back as well! If you are fit and well and the weather looks fine this is an adventure worth taking on for ardent walkers. The lighthouse flashes every 20 seconds and the lighthouse tower is approximately twelve metres high. It was automated in 1970 and was one of the first to go ‘automatic’. The flashing light can be seen at night up to nineteen miles away and serves to protect fishermen from the dangerous cliffs and rocks. It was designed by David and Thomas Stevenson in 1857. If you are on South Uist in your Scotland Motorhome Hire, and want to make the walk from Loch Skipport to the lighthouse, contact the Northern Lighthouse Board general enquiries and they may be able to give you further local information. This is an isolated coast line and only experienced walkers, keen to visit this remote spot, should contemplate setting out. Make sure you have all the right equipment and mobile telephones with you.
