Travel Information

The lands of Aikwood were granted, in 1517, on behalf of the infant King James V, to Maister Michael Scott, namesake of the thirteenth century scholar on whom the legends of wizardry are founded. Previously, Aikwood has been one of the forest steadings in the Royal Forest of Ettrick: the outright grant may indicate that Michael Scott had performed some special service.

If you would love to see glass being made in front of you by skilled craftsmen, glassblowers, then take a trip to Selkirk Glass Visitor Centre. It is here that the world famous paperweights are crafted. For ideal gifts or treasures to keep yourself, it is a delight to admire and purchase these lovely things. Glass catches the light in a way no other material can and looks lovely on display on a window sill or on your desk at work. It will always remind you of your great Scottish holiday in your Motorhome Hire.  Each one will be unique in some way. Selkirk Glass Visitor Centre was established in 1977 in the heart of the Scottish borders by skilled craftsmen. There is also a Scottish gift shop and factory shop and an award-winning restaurant and coffee shop. Glass blowing takes place between April and October between 9am and 4.30pm in the week and Saturday from 11am till 3pm. Last orders for meals in the award winning restaurant and coffee shop is, 4.30pm.
