Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Rosshire

Beinn Eighe was Britain’s first National Nature Reserve. The astonishing diversity of wildlife found here thrives on what at first glance seem barren fields and woodlands.serve. The reserve stretches from Loch Maree to the mountains top. At the heart of the reserve is the Beinn Eighe ridge, a huge cluster of rugged peaks, ridges and scree covered slopes between Loch Maree and Glen Torridon. Benn Eighe is home to soaring eagles and small creatures all set against a back drop of surrounding scenery that is awe inspiring. There is a visitor centre open from Easter to October just outside Kinlochewe. The three trails start here and a further path links the visitor centre with the village of Kinlochewe. If you want to try longer walks there are woodland and mountain trails from the Coire na Glas Leitr car park on the shores of Loch Maree. Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve lies at the southeast end of Loch Maree near the village of Kinlochewe. From the village of Kinlochewe, head 2 miles north-west on the A832 Inverness to Gairloch road. If you are traveling in your Scottish Campervan Rental you will find a large car park at the visitor centre. The visitor centre also has toilets and is open from 10am till 5pm. SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Rosshire

If you are high in the north of Scotland, 12 miles south east of Ullapool, and want a really scenic spectacular walk, then a visit to Corriesshalloch Gorge must be top of your list of places to see. Any walk in Scotland can see dramatic changes in weather conditions so always set off well prepared with clothes for wet weather, a map, a snack and sturdy walking boots or shoes. A mobile phone is always a good idea for any walker and a camera is essential here as the views will be breathtaking as the River Droma descends dramatically over the Falls of Measach into the impressive gorge 1.25km / 0.75 mile long and 60m / 200ft deep. The suspension bridge, a little way downstream from the falls, built by John Fowler, is also breathtaking and not for the faint hearted. If you are afraid of heights you will find the bridge a challenge! Further downstream, is a viewing platform that gives an excellent vantage point for photographs of falls. The Gorge is approximately a mile long and 200 feet deep. Parking for your Scottish Campervan Hire is at the car park on the A832 Dundonnell road and then follow any guidance on the signs. When leaving your Scottish Campervan Hire ensure that all window blinds are down and lockers etc are secured. You will also need to turn on your gas to operate the fridge whilst you are in the gorge. Without it your fridge will slowly defrost!  For more information click on the blue text for the Welcome To Scotland website.

Dingwall Camping and Caravanning Club Site

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Rosshire

The camp site is half a mile away from the town of Dingwall which used to be the Viking Capital of Scotland. The name, Dingwall, comes from the Norse, meaning “meeting place”. Walkers can enjoy the heritage Trail that passes the Site and takes you along the River Peffery to a picnic area on the Cromarty Firth. This is a relaxing site, ideally located for a base to visit the highlands. If you don’t want to travel in your Motorhome, leave it at Dingwall station and take scenic train journey following beautiful routes to Kyle of Lochalsh or Thurso and Wick.  You are also only half-an-hour’s drive from Loch Ness where you can take a cruise in search of ‘Nessie’, so take those binoculars! There is also an Exhibition Centre to explore. There are plenty of local walks that will be of interest, including a trail up Fyrish Hill where there is a monument at the summit. A visit to Ben Wyvis National Nature Reserve is a must for keen nature lovers with opportunity here to spot deer, pine marten and the UK’s largest bird, the golden eagle. No visit to Scotland can be said to be complete unless you have tasted the local Haggis. The local butcher near the campsite produces award winning haggis that is not to be missed! To go with it you will need a glass of whisky and at Tain you can find the Glenmorangie distillery with its famous malt whisky. If you prefer a glass of wine there are several wine producers nearby. Moniak Castle makes wine from wildflowers and fruits. The site is in an excellent location for exploring the western highlands in your Scotland Campervan Hire. Glenmorangie Distillery Scotland

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Rosshire

A visit to Scotland in your Motorhome hire is not complete without a look inside the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain. We don’t recommend the Motorhome driver sampling the product till he or she is safely home. Drinking and driving don’t mix. This is a whisky worth savouring  when your holiday has ended and you are recalling the ‘taste of scotland’. During your visit you will be aided by an expert who will show you the various stages of whisky making, from mashing to maturing. In the summer the distillery is open seven days a week for an admission charge of  £2.50. This can be redeemed against a purchase in the shop.  Check the Glenorangie Distillery website for up to date information as this may be subject to change.  Famed for having the tallest stills in Scotland, the distillery is in a beautiful location overlooking the water. Founded in 1843, this unique whisky is produced with the very best casks.
