Garden lovers or people that just love to look at beautiful scenery will really enjoy wandering through the 62 acre site at Dawyck Botanic Garden. Located at Stobo, on the B712, 8 miles (13 Km) south of Peebles in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland and approximately 28 miles from Edinburgh. The garden is situated in the Upper Tweed Valley. It’s a truly lovely area to be in and well worth a visit if the weather is fine and you can stroll out of doors. Within the garden you can find eleven of the “Heritage Trees of Scotland”, three are specific to Dawyck and are extremely tall and wide! The Dawyck Silver Fir is 35 m (115 ft) in height, the trunk measures 172 cm (5ft 7 in), and its girth is 5.4 m (17ft 9 in). There are also the Dawyck Larch and the Dawyck Beech. Between March and October it is open from 10am till 6pm (Last entry 1 hour before closing). There are also guided walks on occasion. For those of us that like to have a sit down and a nice cup of tea or coffee after our walk there is a conservatory offering refreshments and gifts and souvenirs. Plants are also for sale. Neidpath Castle is a very attractive castle. Built originally in late 12th century.

If you are in peebleshire Scotland on the 6th and 7th Augus,t then visit the Traquair House Fair. Here you will find the gardens alive with activities, from theatre, outdoor spectacles, music, dance, storytelling, children’s entertainments and workshops for all and Craft and Complementary Medicine stalls. There is a great deal for the whole family to find entertaining. You may also want to view the House itself. Visitors are able to take a tour through the rooms of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house. Everywhere are portraits, old prints and maps which refer to the history of the house. The entrance hall itself is quite majestic and leads on to the main stone spiral staircase which goes up to the High Drawing Room, bedrooms, Library and Museum. On the ground floor you can access the vaulted cellars and the Still Room which has a fine collection of blue and white china.The house is open daily from April 9th to October 31st (Weekends only in November). It is 60 miles from Glasgow and 96 from Newcastle. Travel in your Motorhome Hire is easy for the whole family as your ‘home from home’ travels with you. Next to the House itself is Traquair Brewery. The brewery currently produces around 600 to 700 barrels per annum. (200,000 bottles and the remainder draught) Brewing takes place all year round with the exception of August. There are tarmac drives and reasonable access to brewery if dry. Parking is a short walk from the main house.
