Chatelherault Country Park

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Lanarkshire

Chatelherault is a Scottish venue with an intriguingly French name. It is derived from the French town of Chatellerault the dukedom of which was held by the very wealthy Duke of Hamilton. The centre of the park is the Duke’s former hunting lodge which was attached to Hamilton Palace; this has since been demolished in the main because of the effects of coal mining. The lodge was designed by William Adam and provided stables and kenneling for the visiting hunting parties. An avenue of line trees linked the lodge to the palace and must have made an impressive sight for the visiting nobles and dignitaries who were invited to the Dukes hunts, thus confirming his status as the premier peer in Scotland. Indeed the subsidence is prevalent in the lodge itself and gives it a distinctly lopsided feeling. There are plenty of exhibitions which take place within the lodge and there is a large gift shop to browse and a café in which you can enjoy a snack. Outside there are formal gardens and for the more energetic there is 10 miles of walks along the River Avon and through some of the oldest woodlands in Scotland. Keep your eyes open for wildlife as there is plenty to see including roe deer and badgers as well as otters and kingfishers. From the hilltop there are panoramic views of the city of Glasgow as well as the surrounding countryside. You will find the park in your Lanarkshire motorhome hire off the M74, it is very well sign posted. For further information on Chatelherault Country Park, please click the blue link below.

Clyde Valley Caravan Park

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Lanarkshire

This camping park is situated in the very scenic county of Lanarkshire Scotland south of Glasgow. So it’s a great place to be touring in or through. The campsite itself has water, hot showers, toilets etc and 25 to 50 pitches. It does have a number of static caravans and prefabricated homes on site that people use as summer holiday homes, but it is generally a quiet site and certainly excellent for a stop over night if you are traveling in that area. There is a small charge for the use of showers at this site and reviews from other campers are mixed.  The Campsite does not appear to have its own website and information on the price of a pitch is sparse. We would welcome any information that you Motorhome hirers can give if you have stayed there. The site owners do say they welcome tents, touring caravans and motorhomes so if you are in the area on your journey to or from Scotland and decide to stay overnight at Clyde Valley Caravan Park please send us your thoughts regarding its location and facilities. Seeing Scotland in a Scotland Motorhome Hire is the best way for a family to tour and see all the sights at your own pace. You can tour around and choose your destination based on the weather or just a whim!

Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Lanarkshire

The falls of Clyde are adjacent to the New Lanark World Heritage Site and provide you with the opportunity to visit a rather beautiful nature reserve. Currently, the reserve is famous for its pair of breeding peregrines, who, after an absence of 200 years, returned here in 1997. You can view the peregrines on a live CCTV nest cam footage which streams to a big screen. The reserve is also home to otters and badgers and red squirrels, if you are lucky enough to spot any of these you know you have witnessed something special. The circular walk passes badger sets, a small pond, through the wildflower meadow and along the river bank to the impressive waterfalls. The waterfall is a spectacular 27 metre cascade and well worth the walk. Take a picnic from your Scottish Motorhome Hire and enjoy lunch or tea on the banks of the Clyde. The falls inspired poets and painters and is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. There is a reasonably priced admission to Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve fee which can be purchased at the Visitor centre.

A lovely village and an 18th Century cotton mill are located here and include a visitor centre, Health and Fitness Spa, Organic wool Spinners and much more. Newhouse Caravan and Camping Park

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Lanarkshire

This campsite is sporting plenty of facilities for the touring camper. It has centrally heated Toilet block and hot showers with hairdyers at hand. It is always a bonus for us ladies, to be able to shower and do our hair in comfort and warmth, with plenty of space. You can do all these things in your Motorhome of course but now and again its relaxing to be able to spread out a bit and have space without the toilet area in the Motorhome getting all steamed up! Here on the 8 acre site, set within 40 acres of farmland in the undulating countryside of rural South Lanarkshire is a good stop over for motorhomes with all weather hard standing pitches and electric hook ups. It is a level site and its modern facilities have been rated as ‘excellent’ by the Scottish Tourist Board. Apart from all the usual facilities one would expect of a quality campsite, there are also children’s play areas, picnic areas and a woodland dog walk. If you are touring in a Scottish Campervan Hire and want to take your dog with you, check that your Motorhome of choice allows pets. Not every hire vehicle does allow pets, but many do.

The Museum of Lead Mining Wanlockhead

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Lanarkshire

Scotland’s highest village, Wanlockhead, is the location for the Lead Mine. The Museum of Lead Mining experience starts with a trip to the visitor centre. An exhibition describes the history of lead mining with displays of ores and minerals. This is an interesting and highly educational trip out for the entire family. If you are traveling with children do note that children as young as twelve years old worked underground for long and arduous hours at a time. These were harsh and dangerous times for miners of all ages. The guided tour around the mine is entertaining and you may be able to see the token of good luck left by miners in the early 18th Century. If you want to set your children to work at the mine you can find safer work for them to have a go at! Gold Mining! Gold can be found in the lowther hills and gold panning equipment and treasure maps are available in the visitor centre. Your family might make a lucky strike and return wealthy back to your Scottish Motorhome Hire for the evening. If you are not so lucky, console yourselves with a tea at the café at the Museum Of Lead Mining.
