Black Isle Wildlife and Country Park

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Invernessshire

This is a family run venture and stretches across 50 acres so there is plenty of walking if that’s what you are looking for. It has ponds, fields and animal enclosures which house ducks, Emu Lemur and Zebra and probably the most favourite, due to TV adverts in 2011, are the meerKats. The Country Park also has a café and a gift shop. Reviews from some visitors in 2010/2011 describe the café as a bit dated and in need of renovation. It would be interesting to hear from recent visitors as this may have changed.  There are also plenty of goats and other animals not mentioned here. This is a place that will be of interest to younger children who love animals. The opportunity to see a real Meerkat could certainly calm the most upset toddler or cheer up the weary young Motorhome traveler. I would imagine that to get the best from this venue it would be worth picking a day with fine sunny weather. This is probably not the place to visit on a wet and rainy day! Travel on with your Scottish Campervan rental further a field if the weather turns bad. It is best to telephone Black Isle Wildlife and Country Park prior to setting off to visit, to check they are open and get admission prices.

Highland Aviation Museum

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Invernessshire

If you love planes, or just enjoy imagining the heroes that fly these amazing  machines,  it is worth calling into the Highland Aviation Museum situated close to Inverness airport. Expect to see old jets, Nimrod, Blackburn Buccaneer S.1 or Hawker Hunters and many many more. Its not often you get up close to so many vintage flying machines. The history of these planes and the operations they have flown are quite intriguing. Highland Aviation Museum Ltd formed in 2005 and is manned mostly by a keen and willing team of owners and volunteers. There is also an exhibition centre indoors which includes an ejection seat you can be strapped into (but not ejected from) There is also an interesting and a single-seat survival dinghy to try out (dry land only!). Dry land is best as you wouldn’t want to be out at sea trying to survive in it! Included in the displays are aircraft models all ages and sizes and an array of aviation memorabilia. You can also find information about the history of Inverness Airport, which was RAF Dalcross during WW2, as well as information on early local aviation pioneers such as Capt Fresson.  Information about local aircraft crashes are also recorded from 1939 to 1945. The site is open from April to November on Saturdays and Sundays and public holidays from 10:00am till 16:30pm. If you are near Inverness airport on your Scotland Motorhome Hire Holiday this museum could be of interest.
