Just south of Edinburgh on the Scottish Borders close to the town of Lauder in Berwickshire, is  four star Thirlestane Castle Park. Thirlestone Castle Park is in the wonderfully scenic setting of Thirlestone Castle with the backdrop of the River Leader close by. The camping site also has holiday homes that are rented out and can accommodate fifty touring caravans or motorhomes with toilets, showers and a washing machine and electric hook up.  It is also within walking distance of local shops and hotels. If you enjoy walking there is plenty of space to stretch those legs in the parkland.  The border country in Berwickshire is generally rural and rather lovely with many local attractions nearby. If you are a keen photographer the castle and its grounds gives plenty of opportunity to be creative with your camera. The site is open for the season from 1st April to 3rd October and currently in 2011 charge £17 per night for a hard standing pitch for your Scottish Motorhome Hire vehicle. The prices below are for two people; extra persons are charged at £3.50 per night each. For daytime visitors a charge is also applicable. Thirlestane Castle dates back to at least the 13th century, when a large Border fort was built on the site. This fairy tale castle belonged to the Maitland family, one of the most famous in Scotland.
