Blue Hills Tin Streams

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

At Blue Hills Tin Streams, tin ore is gathered from along the Cornish Coast Line and transformed in to beautiful pieces of Jewelry and giftware. Incredibly, tin has been smelted in this area since 2000 B.C. For the majority of time it was mined from the surface and not as one would expect from underground mines. Deep mining has of course been a feature of this industry, but throughout this time the sea has continued to cast up tin from the bottom of the ocean. Even today there is still a rich source of tin available which has allowed the traditions of this area to carry on to this day. In 300 B.C a Greek explorer wrote of his visit to the tin refining area and spoke of friendly people used to doing trade with foreigners. Indeed tin from Cornwall was traded extensively throughout the Mediterranean civilizations at this time. At Blue Hills you can enjoy a guided tour which will explain the journey from a mineral ore into a metal, from rock through the refining process of the water wheel, crushing, concentrating, furnace, metal tapping and pounding ingots to the final stage of producing usable objects. The future looks bright for tin today. It is currently regarded as a clean and green metal. It is a non toxic material and is extremely versatile. If you are interested in purchasing some modern day tin products, or would just like to see for yourself how the refining process takes place you will really enjoy a day out here. To get to Blue Hills Tin Streams in your Cornwall motorhome hire you can follow the brown Tourism signs from Wheal Kitty to the site itself. It is quite a steep valley so be careful on the descent. Bude Camping and Caravanning Club Site

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

The campsite is open from the 1st April 2011 till 26th September 2011 with a hundred pitches. The whole area in this region has outstanding scenery. The site is actually nine miles from Bude, it is much closer to Boscastle which is just five miles away. Boscastle is a lovely village by the sea but unfortunately is now made famous by the tragic floods of 2004. Apparently, when the campsite was first named few people had heard of Boscastle but many have heard of Bude. Now that could be reversed! In Boscastle you can take a fishing trip from the harbour, catch mackerel, trace wrecks or search for sharks! If you don’t want to catch your own fish and prefer it ready caught and cooked, try the local Wainhouse Inn who serve locally caught fish. St Gennys and Trevigue Farm, Crackington Haven and the Piers Café are all close by serving local produce as well. If you enjoy walking try the South West Coast Path on Britain’s longest National Trail. On the trail, walk to the beach, at Crackington Haven or Tintagel. At Tintagel you can visit King Arthur’s legendary home, Tintagel Castle, which is now managed by English Heritage. Walking on the cliff tops of Bude is also spectacular on the South West Coast Path. The best way to tour Cornwall and the south west of England is in your Cornish Motorhome Hire. For more details of the campsite click the blue text below.

Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

Drive your Southern England Motorhome Hire to view Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps on the Cornish coast. The National trust has rebuilt the steep staircase to the beach, but visitors need to be aware of the risk of being cut off by the tide. The staircase is not open in the winter. According to local legend, the stacks of rock or stepping stones were used by the mythical giant Bedruthan. The beach is not safe for bathing, but the views from the cliff  are spectacular and stretch across to Bedruthan beach. There is a National Trust shop at Carnewas in what was the old office of the Carnewas Iron Mine. Check the National Trust website for complete information and opening times. A Southern England Motorhome Hire is great fun in Cornwall. Do not forget to indulge yourself with a traditional Cornish Cream Tea whilst in this county.

Gwithian Green and Churchtown Farm Campsite

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

It is not often you will find a good campsite and a gem of a nature reserve just opposite each other. Gwithian Green is a small reserve situated in the heart of the village and is opposite the campsite at Church Farm. The reserve is a mosaic of grassland, wetland and woods in a very quiet and tranquil setting. It is perfect for wildlife. You are invited to enjoy this peaceful oasis in very small groups to minimise disturbance. You can also join in with some of the events that are held there to look at the species that enjoy the site. The reserve is common land and managed by the Gwithian Green Management Committee, a local group of experts and enthusiasts, with the help of the Community Liaison Officer. Gwithian Green is in Gwithian Village, opposite Churchtown Farm. It can be reached with your Cornwall Campervan Hire vehicle from the B3300. There is very limited parking nearby. To use the campsite at nearby Churchtown Farm, you need to book well in advance as these sites in cornwall are very popular and quickly filled to capacity.  To get there follow the A30 until you reach the large roundabout at Hayle. Newquay Airport Motorhome Hire

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

Newquay Airport was developed in 1934 with the help of Provincial Airways and provided flights from Plymouth to Hayle and Newquay.

From 1941 onwards the airport became a satellite airfield for RAF St Eval, working to back up RAF anti-U boat and shipping patrols.

The airfield was modernised and by 1943 a newly constructed runway was realised, offering a USAF staging area for deploying airplanes to all European theatres of war. The airfield remained in military hands until the late 1950′s.

Ideally located for exploration of the South West, Newquay Airport motorhome hire is a great choice for many motorhome holiday makers.

Paul Corins Magnificent Music Machines

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

If you have a keen interest in music and its evolution through musical instrument invention, you will be fascinated by a visit to Paul Corins Magnificent Music Machines. Paul Corin has a family history in the music business, you will even hear a recording made by his Grandfather Bransby Williams, a star of music hall in the last century and mentor to Charlie Chaplin. He was also a regular on the BBC in the 1950’s and was feted on This Is Your Life, he even appeared for King Edward VII at Sandringham in a Royal Command Performance. Paul has inherited this passion for music and has collected an array of unique and interesting memorabilia, he will even demonstrate the Wurlitzer within the collection. This beautiful instrument came from the Brighton Regent Cinema having been shipped there after being made near Niagra falls in Canada by the Wurlitzer Company. This instrument is the forerunner of the modern day synthesizer and was used to accompany silent films as well as being played as entertainment during the interlude in old cinema halls. The visit will be interesting for those who have an interest in restoration as you will have the opportunity to see Paul restoring theatre organs from all over the country. All of these beautiful machines are now over 70 years old and require repair using traditional methods, an art that Paul is trying to keep alive today. So if you are near Liskeard in your Cornwall motorhome rental, pop in to the museum for a visit. It is also said to be one of the most dog friendly visitor attractions in Cornwall, so if you have your pet with you it will be a great day out for all, including your dog.

Restormel Castle

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

Near St Austell in Cornwall, Restormel Castle is a seemingly magical place to visit. It is one of four important Norman castles in Cornwall. Set on a mound with panoramic views of the countryside. The site is particularly lovely in spring when the bluebells and daffodils are in flower. Beside the River Fowey on top of a high spur, with a woodland backdrop,  the castle is perfectly round on its round mound, surrounded by a deep dry ditch. It is a delight to explore. Edward the Black Prince stayed here in the 14th Century. Imagine the Knights on horseback, the jousting and fighting that went on here. The castle has now slowly decayed over the centuries and this once great place is now a ruin.It was clearly a mighty fortress once and now it is an ideal place to visit on your Cornwall Campervan Hire Holiday. Many, many, knights in armour and their ladies will have feasted here centuries before. Take a picnic from your Cornwall Campervan Hire and enjoy your feast in a setting steeped in history. Trebah Gardens

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Cornwall

This is a paradise that should not be missed. Whether you are a keen gardener or just like to wander around the achievement of others, this garden should rank as one of Cornwall’s most outstanding gardens. Planted in the 1840s by Charles Fox the garden is brimming with rare and exotic plants that Charles brought from all over the world. It was opened to the public by the Hibbert family in 1987 after a great deal of restoration work and replanting. Located on a slope that winds down to a secluded private beach the gardens and beach have views across the Helford River and out to sea. There are giant trees, shrubs and tree ferns, hydrangeas and old large rhododendrons. Perhaps the most exciting walk is strolling through the tunnel created by the giant enormous rhubarb (Gunnera) that towers above most adults. There are also play areas for children and there are also exciting trails for children of different ages to explore. Here you will find pools with Koi Carp and if they want to paddle there is the private beach. The site itself is steep but it definitely feels a privilege to be at Trebah Gardens. Take the opportunity to visit in your Southern England Motorhome Hire. On a sunny day there is no better place to be than in this beautiful garden.

The site has all the usual facilities and is ideal if you love fishing whilst on holiday. There is a fishing Lake on site and permits are available so make sure you pack those rods! A current Environment Agency rod licence is required before fishing can commence. The children and all the family are catered for if you want to play ball games as they have a separate field just for that purpose. Some of the pitches are sloping so you will need chocks to remain level for your own comfort and for the Motorhome fridge to work properly. Pendower Beach is a couple of miles away. It is very beautiful with low, soft cliffs and rock pools and is a designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The site itself is well placed for visiting Cornish attractions such as the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Truro, St Mawes etc. Carne Beacon, a mound about a mile from Veryan is said to be the burial place of the Cornish saint, King Gerennius. Just seeing these lovable creatures, happy and active in the sanctuary, will lift your spirits for the day. Opening on the 3rd April 2011 for the summer season, the sanctuary is in a spectacular setting overlooking the Cornish coast. Walking around the site can be steep in places. On site you will see four different species of monkeys all rescued from either the UK or international sources. All the family will enjoy the visit but children especially will be thrilled with what they see. There is an activity room, workshops, gift shops, and of course a café. If you would like to add to your family before you leave in your Cornish Motorhome Hire, then adopt a monkey for a small fee. Unfortunately you can’t take it home, it must stay in the sanctuary!
