Carpetbagger Aviation Museum

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

If you are traveling in Northampyonshire at the weekend or bank holidays and you have an interest in famous aircraft then a trip to the Carpetbagger Aviation Museum will be a welcome visit. The museum is only open at the weekend and Bank holidays from 16th April to 30th October 2011, and there is a reasonable admission price. The Carpetbagger Aviation Museum was formed in 1993 for the 50th Anniversary reunion of the USAAF’s 801st / 492nd Bomb Group (The Carpetbaggers) at Harrington. It is located on the Administration Site of the former airfield at Harrington. The Carpetbagger project flew “Special Operations” to deliver supplies to resistance groups in enemy occupied countries. They also delivered personnel and occasionally brought people back from the field. This was incredibly dangerous work as aircraft flew over enemy occupied territory. They tried to avoid conflict with the enemy as the mission itself took priority. There is a great deal to see and learn about these courageous flyers. Then, in the late 1950′s the airfield became one of the RAF’s Thor missile sites. Travel in your midlands motorhome hire to the museums by a roadway from off the Harrington to Lamport road adjacent to the bridge over the A14 (M1-A1 link road). The Carpet Bagger museum is about a mile down the roadway from this junction. Although the roadway is relatively narrow it has several passing places and is suitable for your midland motorhome hire.

Stanwick Lakes

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

As the name suggests Stanwick has lakes in abundance and it is just the spot for a walk by the water side. With plenty of wild life attracted to the lakes it’s a good idea to pack those binoculars in your Motorhome hire before you leave home. The former quarry was transformed into this stunning nature reserve some years ago and now houses a newly designed visitor centre. There is also a gift shop and the solar CafĂ©. The cafĂ© sells light meals and snacks and its stunning setting close to the lakeside makes it the ideal spot for a cup of tea and a cake after all that walking! Look out for the events that take place here throughout the year. The events vary from wildlife talks to craft days and even to fishing tutorials. So you may need to pack additional equipment in your midlands Motorhome hire if you intend to go to the fishing event. Perhaps best of all for children and adventurous adults is the boat hire. Boat hire is available at the weekends from May onwards and from 25th July it is all week that week. After the excitement of sleeping in a midlands Motorhome hire, children will just love the chance to paddle their own canoe on the lakes. If you are in Northanptonshire  Stanwick lakes is the place to go for scenery and walking.
