Bird World

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

Open between April and October, pick a good weather day to visit and see Bird World at its best. Located within the Alice Holt Forest in Surrey, Bird World is one of the largest bird parks in the UK. You can spend the whole day here as there is so much to see. Hundreds of birds, parrots that talk, birds that put on their own spectacular displays and birds that are just plain noisy! Twice a day you can watch the penguins being fed and if you book in advance you can feed the penguins yourself. Be forewarned, penguins are very smelly birds to feed and this activity may not be for the faint hearted. Included in the entry price is a visit to underwater world. For smaller children there is the Jenny Wren Farm with lots of domestic animals. If you are allowed to stroke these animals please ensure that children wash their hands thoroughly afterwards. There is also a safari train, Gift Shop, and a Pet Shop, plus opportunities to learn about conservation projects. Travel with your Surrey Motorhome Hire three miles south of Farnham on the A325 and follow the brown and white cockatoo sign boards. Bird World is also well sign posted from the M3 from junction 4 and is also easily accessible in your Surrey Motorhome Hire, from the M25.

Brooklands Museum

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

The site of the worlds first purpose-built motor racing circuit, was constructed at Weybridge, Surrey in 1907 and is now the location of Brooklands Museum. It is now the home of Concorde. This amazing airplane is grounded for good here but you can still imagine supersonic flight as its passengers flew at that amazing speed. I have always been surprised at how small the interior is in comparison to other holiday jets, but then it has to have been like a dart to travel faster than sound. It is worth seeing if you love travel and want to see how the wealthy passenger jetted around the world.  The Museum also houses the Concorde Simulator, it is one of just two in the world and cost approximately £3 million, equivalent to some £20 million at today’s prices. One of the most sophisticated aircraft simulators ever created and was used to train British Airways Concorde aircrew. When Concorde operations ceased at the end of 2003, British Airways decommisioned the simulator and, a year later, it was dismantled and transported to Brooklands Museum.  Brooklands Museum is also the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout eight decades of the 20th century. Brooklands Museum is run as a registered charity with many volunteers supporting activities there. There are several events taking place throughout the year so if you are traveling in your Surrey Motorhome Hire it is best to check what is happening prior to setting out. Plan your visit taking account of opening times and admission prices.

Pig Racing at Bocketts Farm

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

There are, across the U.K., a great many farms open to visitors, but few offer pig racing as an activity. So if you are in Surrey with the family, take the children for the day there to watch this extraordinary pastime. The races take place every day at 12.45pm and 3.45pm, by the outdoor play area.  Choose your winner; if you are a good judge of a racing piglet then your pig choice could come in first! Cheer on the piglets as they travel around the race track as fast as their trotters will carry them! This of course, is only one of the many sights on offer at the farm and it is certainly unusual. Geared for children, the farm also has Pony rides (weather permitting) once a day, or twice at busy times, for children aged 3yrs and over. There is a charge of £1.50 for this activity.  Then there is a ‘Gold’ panning area- where children can sieve for ‘gold’ at the Last Chance Mine. It is a fantastic place to splash around, and can be enjoyed by all members of the family. Price costs £2 per session (which can be shared by the family). Pricing is taken from their 2011 website and may vary. In return for the gold that you find, you take home a souvenir medal! There are also all the usual pets and animals you would associate with a visitor farm plus play areas for the children and trailer rides. Opening times can vary for activities, so please call in advance. The Tea Room is also open to non visitors and provides a welcome stopping off point. Take advantage of the beautiful Surrey countryside around the farm when you travel on your holiday in your London Motorhome Hire. To get there by road Bocketts Farm is situated in Fetcham, south of Leatherhead on Young Street, which is part of the A246 main road to Guildford. For owners of satellite navigation systems, the postcode is KT22 9BS. Please note, once on Young Street, if directed to ‘Salvation Place’ ignore and carry on up to the roundabout where the Bocketts Farm entrance is located. Check the Bocketts Farm website for admission prices and opening times prior to setting out in your London Motorhome Hire.

Walton on Thames Camping and Caravanning Site

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

Walton on Thames Camping and Caravanning Club Site
is a members only site, so ensure you are a member at least 24 hours prior to booking. The site has no toilets or showers but it does have water and a chemical toilet disposal point, so you need to use the facilities in your Motorhome. This is a disadvantage, but on the plus side you are inside London’s infamous orbital M25 motorway and only 15 miles from the City. The best way to visit London is with public transport so catch the Train into London which leaves from the station, around a mile away.On the campsite there is a resident flock of parakeets but for those of you who prefer activity try horse riding, which is available from several local centres close to the Site. There are also places of historical interest locally such as, Hampton Court, Henry VIII’s majestic palace on the Thames and Brooklands Museum (british motorsport). If you don’t want to travel, bring your fishing tackle with you and make sure you have a current Environment Agency rod licence and then relax and enjoy the fishing which is available on site during the season (16 June to site closing date). Buy your food locally at Fridgeway at Squires Garden Centre they sell local fruit, vegetables and preserves. During the summer, pick your own fruit and vegetables (in season) at Garsons, including asparagus, peas and raspberries. The children will love a visit to one of the three theme parks in the area; Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures or Legoland. Close to London in a countryside setting you have the best of both worlds at hand in your Surrey Motorhome Hire. For more information about camping at Walton on Thames, click the blue text below.
