Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

The Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club is ideally situated for touring into the Cotswold’s. Chipping Norton town is not far from the site and has a museum, cinema, theatre and leisure centre. There are quite a few antiques shops and plenty of restaurants and cafes if you don’t want to cook your own meals or just want a treat. There is a Farmers’ Market on the third Saturday of the month in Chipping Norton. There are several farm shops in the area selling locally grown fruit and vegetables. The butcher in Chipping Norton sells locally reared meat. The Cotswold woolen trade resulted in many of the local buildings and churches being built in golden stone. The parish Church in Chipping Norton is thought to be one of the finest in the UK. Local attractions include Hook Norton brewery which is open to the public. It still uses a steam engine and other traditional methods to produce its beer. There is also a visit to Hidcote Manor which has gardens in an arts and crafts style. Chipping Norton is steeped in history, for instance, the notorious highwayman James Hind was born in Chipping Norton and was executed for high treason in 1652. The campsite is open from the 1st April to 31st March 2011 and booking a pitch in advance for your Oxfordshire Motorhome Hire is always advised. Farnborough Hall

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Oxfordshire

Farnborough Hall is a lovely mellow honey coloured stone house set in the lovely countryside near Banbury. It is a grade 1 listed building which is still run and occupied by the Holbech family although it is in the care of the National Trust. The family acquired the estate in 1684 and some hundred years later undertook extensive remodeling work. William Holbech having been on his grand tour collecting a startling display of sculpture and art including work by Canaletto and Panini, required a suitable number of rooms in which to display his treasures to their best advantage. It is thought that he engaged his friend and close neighbour, the ‘gentleman’ architect Sanderson Miller to undertake the remodeling. The long Palladian elevations with sash windows were introduced along with a balustrading to the roof and pedimented door ways. You will find the the Italian hall full of marvelous stone busts and intricate stucco work. The dining room remodeled to house the Canalettos still houses the work today although unfortunately the originals are long gone and copies grace the walls today. The same architect also worked on the lovely gardens which remain largely unaltered to the present day. The grassy, tree flanked terrace walk provides excellent views of the Warwickshire plains. There is an ionic temple and oval pavilion decorated inside with rich plasterwork. If you find yourself near Farnborough in your Oxfordshire motorhome hire it is well worth popping in for a visit. Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Oxfordshire

Island Donkey Farm is a lovely place to visit if you love Donkeys; and there are many of you out there. Most of us have happy childhood memories of Donkeys from days out at the beach or from childhood stories, but unfortunately many of these lovely creatures do not have happy lives at all. Many are mistreated and neglected after giving loyal service to human kind. It is not just in far off countries that this cruelty to donkeys can be found, there are many of these creatures suffering in the UK today. It is the dedication of the staff at the donkey rescue which ensures that any animal brought to the sanctuary will go on to have a happy and natural donkey life. Many of the donkeys go on to compete in shows and many of them are as successful as other animals who have found themselves in a more fortunate position. There are many donkeys available for adoption, so you may want to consider spending just £15 to help ensure that the sanctuary can continue its fabulous work. The rescue centre is currently home to 3 rare Andalucian donkeys, all female who have been saved from lives of misery, one of them being rescued from a livestock market by a caring horse dealer. It is hoped that in time these can be mated with a male Spanish donkey in order to try to preserve their kind as there is only thought to be 120 such donkeys surviving worldwide. You will have a lovely day out at Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary, but be sure not to try to smuggle one of these cuties home in your Oxfordshire motorhome hire! Oxford Camping and Caravanning Club Site

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

If you want to be best placed to spend more than a day in Oxford, then the Oxford Camping and Caravanning Site, is for you. You can catch a bus right outside the campsite entrance and it will take you into the city centre. For the very active amongst you, you could walk in, as it is just over a mile to the centre of town. Oxford cannot be explored properly with a Motorhome as you cannot park in the city centre,  so this is an excellent alternative. The only problem will be, that the campsite can be a little noisy at times. It is a small price to pay for the convenience of being so central. Discovering and exploring Oxford is something every tourist must do as there is so much to enthrall any visitor to this university town. There are the university colleges to visit and famous museums, not to mention all those shops, restaurants and events that go with a big city! The camping site has an electric Security barrier in operation and all the facilities you would expect of a good site. If you want to be as central to Oxford as you can get, in your Oxfordshire Motorhome Hire , booking this site well in advance is essential.
