Beale Park

If you are in Berkshire with your campervan, Beale Park is a great place to visit.  Located in Lower Basildon, Beale Park boasts over 400 acres of parkland and water meadows along the banks of the river Thames. There are many species of animal to be found in the park, from racoons to lemurs. Beale Park also offers many different gardens to explore, including a herb garden and the Jubilee Water Gardens. There is also a wide range of sculptures located throughout the park.

Bucklebury Farm Park

Bucklebury Farm Park is between Reading and Newbury in the Berkshire countryside close to the village Bucklebury and located in a 74-acre site. There is a great deal for animal lovers to see and do here. There is a stunning Deer Park with a Red Deer herd  that was established in 1992 and now has around 150 deer, with one main stag and a mix of hinds, other stags and young calves. The spectacular parkland gives viewers the chance to see the deer in their natural habitat. As expected at a farm Park there are plenty of farm animals to see too. Children will love the indoor play area and there are also tractor and trailer rides included in the admission price. There is also an Adventure Playground, The Wild Walk, Be a Farmer Club, Pedal Go Cart Track and Den Building and if all this excitement proves too much and you need a sit down with a nice cup of tea and cake, try the on site café that sells refreshments. Dinton Pastures Country Park

Dinton Pastures Country Park is one of t5he largest parks in the Berkshire area and includes7 lakes, 2 rivers, and surrounding meadows. There is plenty of space for the whole family to walk and space for the children to run around. There are several circular footpaths and trails ranging from 1 mile to around 3 miles for those of you feeling energetic! There are car parking charges but admission to the park is free. The wild life here is a great attraction with three public bird hides that provide secret viewing of the waterfowl. There are plenty of places for the family to picnic as well as a children’s play area. Watersports and rowing boats are available at the Multi Activity Centre which is on site. From the 7th August 2011 till 30th October 2011, Dinton Multi Activity Centre runs an ‘Explore Black Swan lake from a different perspective and observe the wildlfe from the water’ activity. The Dragonfly café at Dinton Pastures Country Park is also ideally placed for those much needed cups of tea and pieces of cake. There is also a programme of Nordic Walking Activities for Over 50′s which is part of the S.H.I.N.E Programme. Here is excellent walking through woodland, scrub thickets, grassland, past downland ponds, by the river and across the meadows. This National Trust property was purchased by local residents and given to the National Trust in 1934.

Cock Marsh is renowned for being of the best lowland wetland sites in the uk.

If you love wildflowers the best time to visit is in the spring to witness the best displays. The site includes many very rare species.

The UK Wolf Conservation Trust

This is not open every day and you must telephone to arrange your visit prior to setting off. A visit the Wolf Centre for member and two guests on a weekday is £40. Visits must be pre-arranged with the office. They have open days and special seasonal events so it is worth visiting their website (link at the bottom of page). There are activities for children held in every school holiday include a Walk with Wolves (minimum age 6+) with Wolf contact, Wolf Keeper Days, storytelling events and craft workshops. Pre-booking is essential as numbers are limited. To get to the wolf Trust, take junction 12 off the M4. From the M4 junction, head towards Theale. Go straight across the next roundabout, taking the exit sign posted “Newbury A4″. After a section of dual carriageway, take the second exit on the roundabout (again signposted “Newbury A4″). Continue along the A4 onto a dual carriageway. Turn right opposite the Comfort Hotel, sign posted Beenham. Follow the road around two bends and up the hill. Take the left turn at the mini-roundabout. The entrance to the UKWCT is on the right, opposite a lay-by (which itself is next to two bungalows). Look for the “Butlers Farm” sign. This is a unique experience to see wolves close up but you must have pre arranged your visit as part of your Berkshire Motorhome Hire Holiday adventure. Trilakes Animal Park

This is in a beautiful countryside setting with two spectacular fishing lakes. There is something here for children and keen fisherman, and of course those of us of all ages that love animals!  The site is open from 9.30am to 6.30pm, 7 days a week with a last entry at 5pm.Children have a mini farm they can visit with chipmunks, goats, miniature horses, rabbits, pigs and sheep (animal feed available). There is also a separate indoor 6000ft Playbarn with sand pit, ride on toy truck area, soft play area full of fun with a giant three-lane slide (suitable for all ages), ball pond, shooting cannons, mini football court and a separate area for under 4s. Fishermen and women will love the opportunity to fish in the two lakes well stocked with Carp, Tench, Rudd, Roach, Bream, Perch and Pike. Day fishing is available and open to all but Night fishing and Day & Night fishing (Friday & Saturday nights) is available to members only. To become a member there is an annual membership cost. Just strolling around this lovely location may be of interest to most families with children who are keen to try Jake’s nature trail (coming in 2011) and the more athletic youngsters will enjoy trying the Mini assault course. There is also a restaurant serving refreshments of all kinds or alternatively you can use one of the many outdoor picnic areas with tables and seating.
