Ickworth

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Suffolk

Ickworth was home to the Marquises of Bristol from the 15th century. The historic Hervey family is unfortunately better known today for their public antics and the modeling careers of the daughters than as an aristocratic family with an eminent past and an appetite for architecture and art. The house at Ickworth is an architectural gem with a frontage over 600 feet long and a rotunda over 100 feet high. It was based on the designs of Italian architect Mario Asprucci and contains paintings by some of the world’s most famous artists including Titian and Velazquez as well as family portraits by the likes of Gainsborough. It is also said that its collection of Georgian silver is probably the finest in Britain. Whilst the house in undeniably beautiful, it is the Italianate gardens that really set off the property and you will undoubtedly enjoy an exploration of the spring and silver gardens and the unusual stumpery. After partaking in one of the lovely woodland walks, you will most likely enjoy some refreshments in the fabulous on site restaurant. Set in the west wing is a lovely licensed café selling a myriad of tasty cakes as well as offering an extensive menu if you require something more substantial. The shop sells a diverse range of unique products including lovely blankets, locally made jewelry and a variety of food products from local farmers and suppliers. Ickworth truly is Britain at it historic and splendid best and a sight not to be missed when traveling in your Suffolk motorhome hire. There are few truly ancient woodland left in the UK and this reserve in East Anglia is one of the few.  The RSPB is continues the traditional coppicing method of managing the reserve. As a result the woodland is a haven for a wide variety of birds, plants and mammals. In the spring you may be lucky enough to hear the beautiful song of the nightingale in this lovely woodland. If you are up early in the spring the dawn chorus can herald up to twenty different species of birds singing away. A wide range of birds can be seen and heard all year-round so this is an excellent place for both expert and those beginning bird watching. The wood and trails are open at all times but the car park is locked from 6 pm (or dusk if earlier), until 9am. Entry is free but donations to the RSPB are welcome so they can continue to maintain this beautiful woodland. The woods can be very muddy at times so it’s a good idea to wear Wellington boots. No dogs allowed, except registered assistance dogs. To get to Wolves Wood in your Suffolk Motorhome Hire, drive from Hadleigh town centre, heading north up Angel Street. At the junction of the A1071, turn right towards Ipswich. The reserve is signposted after a mile on the left-hand side. Work & Play dog Day 10 July 2011

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in England

The Blue Cross are dedicated to improving animal welfare and are holding a fundraising event for the Blue Cross Felixstowe. The work and Play Dog Day will take place on 10th July and is bound to be fun for all the family to watch. If you are a dog lover then make this event part of your Suffolk Holiday adventure! On view will be a Sheepdog trial, gundog scurry, rally-o, flyball demo, agility demo and have-a-go, fun scurry, fun dog show etc. This is a dog show for canines of all different breeds, shapes and sizes! For those of you who have never watched a flyball demonstration I can recommend this activity as one to watch! If you are thinking of taking your own dog (some Motorhome hires allow pets to travel) check with the organizers before you set out to confirm whether this is possible as some dog shows do not allow pet dogs to attend. At the event there will be a BBQ and refreshments and Animal charity stalls. There is also a fundraising raffle. For further information on the work and play dog show click on the blue text. On your Suffolk Motorhome Holiday you can find lots of events of interest for the whole family to enjoy.
