Liverpool Airport Motorhome Hire

SEARCH: Motorhomes for Hire in Northern England

Liverpool airport was originally called Speke Airport, named after the Speke Hall grounds that it occupied. It started operations in 1930. Scheduled flights with Imperial Airways via Barton, Manchester, to Croydon, London shortly became available.

With the outbreak of World War II the base was shifted to the RAF and became RAF Speke. Rootes in a shadow factory built Bristol Blenheims and Handley Page Haifaxes aircraft. The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation employed the land site to put together Hudson lightweight bombers and P-51 Mustangs fighters. Afterwards, these aircraft where shipped to Liverpool docks.

After VE-Day the RAF base was transfered once more for civil use.

The archetypal Speke building has since been converted to a hotel; the old terminal can be seen on Beatle footage with fans standing on the art deco style structure.

In 2002 the site was renamed in honour of Liverpool’s famous son: John Lennon. Today, Liverpool Airport motorhome hire has become a popular holiday choice for many visitors to the North of England.
